Guan Eng to come clean on his recent trip with 21 delegates to China
GEORGETOWN: A non-governmental organisation (NGO) has called on Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to justify the recent trip of 21-member delegation of Penang government officers, their spouses and business representatives to China, which cost the state RM93,910.
Sensible & Ethical Malaysian United Team (Semut) president Huan Cheng Guan said Lim should stop his twists, twirls and turns in justifying his mismanagement by diverting public attention to past mistakes of previous state government, Barisan Nasional (BN).
He reminded Lim that BN’s state administration was over and the Pakatan Rakyat government was now into its second term.
He said BN’s expenses are irrelevant now especially when the DAP claimed to be “whiter than white.”
“It is merely pulling wool over our eyes so that we cannot see the discrepancies therein.
“Who is asking? We have been shown many times that the trips taken by the present officers cost much less than in the past under BN.
“The public has the right to know,” insisted Huan.
He pointed out that Jim Lane, the Scottsdale mayor from Arizona, USA also attended the 17th annual Inter-Islands Tourism Policy (ITOP) Forum, held from November 6 to 9 in Haikou, Hainan, China.
Huan said George Hartz, President of Scottsdale Sister Cities confirmed that Jim was given the opportunity to promote Scottsdale tourism at the forum; and he went alone at the invitation of Haikou government, which also paid for the trip.
“Hence is it justified that Lim Guan Eng needed 21 members, including his spouse, using state funds to attend the same forum?
“Lim must justify on why such a big delegation was sent at the state’s expense for an event that is quite narrow in scope and overlaps with the tourism ministry’s portfolio,” said Huan in a statement here today.
According to its official website, ITOP Forum was founded in 1997 with the attendance of four provincial governments of Bali, Indonesia; Hainan, China; Okinawa, Japan and Jeju, South Korea.
